🕯️ My Evening Hedgehog Routine
Evenings in our house are soft, cozy, and filled with snuffles—and that’s thanks to our little hedgies and their nighttime rituals. While I usually do the big clean-up during the morning, evenings are all about bonding, snacks, and quality time.
Once the sun goes down and the house starts to quiet, my hedgies begin to wake up. That’s my cue: it’s time for our favorite part of the day.
💻 Bonding + Background Noise
I’ll gently get them out of their enclosures and either place them in their snuggle bags or let them settle on a fleece blanket next to me. Whether I’m catching up on Netflix or working on my laptop, they’re right there with me—sometimes dozing, sometimes exploring. It’s our version of “hanging out on the couch,” and honestly? It’s the best.
Aurora often takes this time to drop her signature surprises 💩 (lol, diva), and Peanut usually just curls up and enjoys the quiet.
🍽️ Snacks & Enrichment
Some nights, I’ll offer them a treat—like a few dried mealworms or a pinky mouse (Amore loved those so much 💛). It’s a nice way to reward them for handling time and keep the evening positive.
If they’re feeling energetic, I’ll let them explore my desk or play in a dig box or tunnel setup nearby. It’s all about reading their moods and letting them guide the vibe.
🌿 Calming Down
As bedtime approaches, I gently return them to their cozy enclosures. I make sure their wheels are clean and ready, their water bottles are full, and any stray bedding or poop is tidied up. I try to keep the lighting low and the room calm, helping them ease into their natural nighttime rhythm.
These simple routines keep us connected and help my hedgies feel safe, loved, and part of our little home rhythm. It’s not always glamorous—there’s poop, there’s stubborn moods—but it’s the kind of routine that makes my heart happy.
