✨ Peanut’s Sparkle Ball Obsession: A Deep Dive

✨ Peanut’s Sparkle Ball Obsession: A Deep Dive

Every hedgehog has their “thing.” For some, it’s burrowing under every possible hide. For others, it’s rearranging their cage like a tiny interior decorator.

But for Peanut?

It’s sparkle balls.

And not just a passing interest—this girl has a full-blown obsession.

🎾 How It Started

It all began when we added a few tiny sparkle balls to her dig bin. They were bright, soft, and light enough for her to push around—seemed like a cute little enrichment add-on.

What we didn’t expect was a full-blown nightly ritual.

Now, every single morning, I check her cage and—like clockwork—there are two or three sparkle balls scattered around. Not in the dig bin. Not tucked neatly away. But artfully (or chaotically) distributed throughout her space like she’s showing off her collection.

🎥 Caught in the Act

We even caught her on our pet cam carrying one around her cage like a prized possession. Mouth full of sparkle, proud little trot, dropping it off somewhere important… then returning for another.

It’s honestly one of the cutest things ever.

And it’s a reminder that even tiny animals with quills and quiet habits can have BIG personalities and preferences.

💡 Why It Matters

At first, it’s just adorable. But Peanut’s sparkle ball hoarding has taught me something deeper about enrichment:

👉 Hedgehogs need stimulation

👉 They crave things to interact with, hoard, carry, push, sniff

👉 And when they find something they love—they thrive

Watching her with these simple little toys has inspired me to be more intentional about offering variety and watching for what she responds to.

🧺 Sparkle Ball Setup Tips

Want to try it for your own hedgie? Here’s how we did it:

  • We use non-toxic, soft sparkle balls designed for small pets

  • Tossed 3–5 into her dig bin with shredded paper

  • Let her decide what to do—no pressure, just options

  • Now we rotate in new ones when old ones get flattened (yes, that happens)

Peanut reminds me daily that joy comes in the tiniest glittery packages. And that sometimes, enrichment doesn’t have to be complicated—it just has to sparkle.
