💬 Your Hedgehog Questions, Answered!


One of the best parts of running this blog and sharing our adventures with Peanut and Aurora is hearing from you—fellow hedgie parents, curious future owners, and everyone in between.


Over time, I’ve received some awesome (and hilarious) questions—so today, I’m answering a few of the most common ones. And if you’ve got a burning hedgie question, this is your official invite to ask!

❓ “Do hedgehogs actually bond with humans?”


Yes, absolutely!

It takes time and patience, but many hedgehogs form strong bonds with their people. Peanut loves lap snuggles, while Aurora’s a bit more “touch-me-not” most days—but even she’s come a long way.


Bonding doesn’t always look like cuddling—it can be exploring near you, relaxing in your scent, or just peeking out during quiet time together.

❓ “What’s the weirdest thing your hedgehogs do?”


Oh, hands down:

  • Peanut hoarding sparkle balls and redecorating her cage nightly

  • Aurora hiding under her litter pan like it’s a secret hideaway bunker


They keep life entertaining and remind me every day that enrichment and observation go hand-in-hand.

❓ “What do you feed them daily?”


Our hedgie menu includes:

  • High-quality, grain-free cat food (with good protein/fat ratios)

  • Freeze-dried or live insects (mealworms are a hit)

  • Occasional treats like scrambled egg, chicken, or pinky mice

  • Fresh water always available


And we monitor portions to avoid weight gain—hedgies love a snack just as much as we do 😅

❓ “Is it true they poop while running on their wheel?”


IT. IS. TRUE.

It’s the most iconic, chaotic part of hedgehog ownership. You will clean poop off a wheel. Regularly. With determination and possibly a toothbrush.
